Photography as a Bridge – Seeing, Telling Stories and Creating Connections - Workshop at KVHS Potsdam-Mittelmark

How can photography connect people, even when they speak different languages or have different life stories?
That is exactly what my workshop, “Photography as a Bridge,” is about. Together, we explore how photography can help us connect with others, express our own perspectives, and get to know other people and their ways of seeing the world.
Discovering New Perspectives Through the Camera
My name is Sareh Oveysi. I am a photographer, visual artist and media producer. Encounters with people play an important role in my work. For me, a camera is more than just a tool for taking pictures. It also helps me connect with people, discover stories and bring people closer together.
The idea for the “Photography as a Bridge” workshop grew out of these experiences.
Participants do not need any previous photography experience. They can take part using their own camera or smartphone. The focus is not on taking perfect pictures or learning technical rules, but on discovering, observing and telling stories together.
A Workshop About Seeing and Connecting
On 3 October 2026, I held the workshop in Bad Belzig as part of a programme offered by Kreisvolkshochschule Potsdam-Mittelmark, an adult education centre in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district.
Together, we explored how photography can help us become more aware of our surroundings and make our personal perspectives visible. We also looked at how photographs can inspire conversations and create opportunities for people to meet and connect.
Everyone sees the world a little differently. When we share our photographs with one another, we can discover these differences and find common ground – sometimes even without many words.
Photography as a Way to Build Connections
The workshop is open to people with different experiences, backgrounds and language skills. It can be used for intercultural encounters, educational programmes, group projects and activities that encourage people to get to know one another and exchange experiences.
Photography can help break down communication barriers, give people an opportunity to express themselves and encourage conversations. The aim is not for everyone to see things in the same way, but to notice one another and respect different perspectives.
Interested in Working Together?
I would be happy to offer this workshop in collaboration with educational institutions, associations, social initiatives and other organisations.
The content and duration can be adapted to suit each group and project. The workshop can be carried out using cameras or smartphones and does not require extensive technical equipment.
If you are interested in “Photography as a Bridge” or would like to include the workshop in your educational activities or projects, I would be happy to hear from you.
