It’s Just a Body Exhibition

Exile Media Hub, Brandenburg | 2024

Organized by MICT, Berlin and Coconat Workation.retreat

This exhibition grew out of a feeling of urgency, vulnerability, and survival.Out of a body that carries memories, fear, longing, and resistance all at once.

On September , 2024, at 3:00 PM, the Exile Media Hub Brandenburg opened its first exhibition and invited visitors to experience my work. For me, the opening was more than an exhibition—it was a quiet arrival after fleeing my home country and the start of a new chapter.

The exhibition was visited not only by many wonderful guests but also by Melanie Balzer, Member of the Brandenburg State Parliament, and Jörg Steinbach, Minister of Economy of Brandenburg.

Because of my work portraying women in Iran, I faced threats and had to leave my country. Since July 2024, I have been living and working at the Exile Media Hub in Schmerwitz. This place has given me safety as well as space to breathe, reflect, and create again.

“It’s Just a Body” looks at the body as an emotional and political space. In my photographs, I combine fashion, fantasy, and dreamlike imagery. The body is not weak or silent—it is alive, changing, and powerful.

My work is often surreal and plays with a queer aesthetic. The figures move between dream and reality, showing freedom, vulnerability, and the desire to be seen.

This exhibition is very personal to me. It tells the story of continuing to create and move forward, even when fear, loss, and hope coexist within you.

I invite you to take your time, look closely, feel, and experience the work without judgment.

With gratitude,Sareh Oveysi
